California Dreamin' Day 1

California Dreamin' Day 1

Malibu, Santa Barbara & the art of the 48 hour vacation

We’re frequently asked how we manage to travel so often. The truth is: we are masters of the 48 hour vacation. While I work freelance and have an insanely flexible schedule, Erichs career carries the standard 2 week vacation policy. Most people would consider 48 hours far too little time to enjoy any destination but when you travel like we do (pack it all in and hope for the best), you make every minute count. Late night flights and red eyes are part of the game but we find it’s absolutely worth it! For our most recent trip we tagged 2 days onto a last minute gig I had in LA. After a 5 hour delay and a plane swap we were on the west coast (you have to roll with the punches). We picked up our car, checked in to an airport hotel for a few hours of sleep and were up and moving by 10AM.

After an Airbnb search, Erich found us the perfect little spot for some much needed RNR: Zuma Sanctuary.  We drove up a private road directly off of the PCH to find a little slice of Malibu heaven. The property houses 2 stunning tents (think full-on glamping) and 2 airstreams. We opted for the 1974 Airstream Overlander. It was rustic, bright and cozy all at once. Details like Mexican blankets, artisan pillows and a perfectly placed row of colorful skulls gave our little home away from home that quintessential Cali vibe. We relaxed on the hammocks, took a shower in the outdoor shower and even managed a breakfast on the deck while we were there.

The beach is walking distance from the property and the simple details of the jaunt are outlined for you in the welcome packet. You do have to cross the PCH by foot which might make you feel like you’re in a game of Frogger, but a little patience and a small sprint will do the trick. Day 1, allowed us to check off a California bucket list item: Matador Beach. It was breathtaking. One of those places where neither words or pictures do it justice. Nevertheless here are our little moments in time along this perfect stretch of beach.

Stay tuned for Day 2: Lunch at a biker hangout, PCH road tripping & the perfectly Spanish influenced charm of Santa Barabara
